Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
The most glaring problem in the Star Wars movies is the one George Lucas will never address: the horrible typesetting of the opening crawls.
Dreaming of a civilization where one can have a remotely desirable lifestyle without constantly fucking people over. m.motherjones.com/politics/2012/0…
Is there a service that can tell me by percentage how much each person I follow contributed to my Twitter stream during a given timeframe?

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Brooklyn Bridge
Of the At the Drive-In / Mars Volta oeuvre, I love De-Loused in the Comatorium and dislike everything else. Not sure how that happened.

The Civil War
Spurred by winter’s return, I palmed the radiator, said, “The heat is on,” and instantly regretted it. Somewhere, Glenn Frey is cackling.
Finished Ken Burns’ Civil War. It was truly outstanding. I wish I could’ve watched it with my dad.
How many virgins were hanging around that Olive Oil was an extra? And why didn’t she and Popeye consummate their marriage?
Thinking of the amazing things that could be done with all the time and energy devoted to producing artificial wealth. theatlantic.com/magazine/prin…
William Tecumseh Sherman was not fucking around.

Self-Aware Statistics
Questioning the value of personal data.
Personal statistics fascinate me, and in the information age, I’m collecting a ton of them. Last.fm keeps track of what music I listen to and when I listen to it. Letterboxd does the same for movies, and the tagging system I’m using within it tells me how the movies were formatted, where I watched them, and more. Goodreads and Instapaper keep tabs on my reading, Foursquare and Tripit chronicle the details of my travels, and… See more →

My latest contribution to @thepastrybox has some questions about the value of personal statistics. the-pastry-box-project.net/rob-weychert/2…
Hoping the implications of retina displays lead more designers and developers to embrace SVG when appropriate.

Crips and Bloods: Made in America
Going into Crips and Bloods: Made in America, I was concerned that it would just be a sensationalist exposé on LA’s two most notorious gangs. But I was pleased to find that it has a genuine curiosity about its subject, which extends beyond the violence and traces the roots of African-American marginalization from the early twentieth century to present day. It is often a bit too stylish for its own good, and I wish it… See more →

Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey
What I think @robinsloan’s Fish overlooks is that the web is made of bite-size stuff, a traditionally ephemeral class of content.

Amityville II: The Possession

The Amityville Horror
Karaoke night has begun and apparently this place is overrun by musical theater people. Send arsenic.
Your car alarm wouldn’t bother me so much if it was being powered by you burning alive.
If you use emphatic all caps more than once a month for any reason, you need to rethink your communication strategy.

Lots of important things I need to do today, so I’m updating all my @letterboxd film diary entries with a new tag taxonomy instead.
South by Southwest Film 2012
Just Like Being There
One of the smartest things Just Like Being There does is to go out of its way not to ignore the “gig” part of “gig posters”. The film is thick with music in both the background and foreground, and the handful of live performances it features do a good job of capturing that certain kind of magic that only a great rock show can provide. Capturing that magic is… See more →

Weird, creepy autograph hunters are strategizing a swarm on Minnie Driver.
Aaaand Dollhouse is my first complete dud of the festival. Couldn’t get out of that theater fast enough.

The White Ribbon
Two plus hours in line later, I have a badge. Biggest SXSW shit show ever.

This is not why I come to Texas in March.
Excited to see what @Rdio unveils next week, but all I really want is to be able to get through a song without the stream crapping out.
Fare thee well, long hair. We both knew it couldn’t last forever. At least we’ll always have this: youtube.com/watch?v=z5iBzS…
If @lanyrd is to be believed, there are at least 2838 speakers at SXSW Interactive this year. That’s... madness. lanyrd.com/2012/sxsw-inte…
PSA: Yes, your device lets you shoot video in portrait orientation, but that doesn’t mean there will ever be a good reason for you to do it.

After playing from iOS Remote, Mac iTunes defaults to the playlist that alphabetically follows “Remote”. For me, it’s “Songs About Penises”.

“Surround yourself with people smarter than you” is popular advice, but it leaves off the part where you have something to offer in return.
Last night’s drunken, yelling neighbor resumed yelling drunkenly early this morning, and continues still. He is dedicated to his craft.
Apparently the only way to delete one of your photos from iOS’s Photo Stream is to delete all of your photos from iOS’s Photo Stream. Great.

The Warriors
You think the Orphans ain’t with it? You think the Orphans ain’t well known? They got a heavy rep. Mess with them and you’ll find that out.
Great evening hanging out with @MarsEssl and a few other, less significant people.
