Star Wars
A video essay about how Star Wars was saved in the edit inspired me to finally watch Harmy’s Despecialized Edition, which had been sitting on my hard drive for years. Not having seen the original practical effects in decades, I expected them to look a lot rougher than they did. Their toyetic artifice is definitely apparent, but knowing how much of a leap forward they were in 1977—the industry drafted behind this achievement for well… See more →

Yeah, so, it is within the realm of possibilities that this Carrie Fisher tribute made me cry. youtube.com/watch?v=sE99le…
“Does Boba Fett have a car?”
My cereal box gave me a free poster of the absolute worst Star Wars movie, so happy Friday I guess?
Not sure why everyone’s upset about the announcement of Star Wars Episode 7, as if the series wasn’t already irreparably damaged.
If there were more Star Wars movies, we would eventually find out that everyone else is also related to Luke.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
The most glaring problem in the Star Wars movies is the one George Lucas will never address: the horrible typesetting of the opening crawls.

Dear musicians: Stand by your documents. Reissues with remasters, alternate takes, live versions, etc make you the George Lucases of music.
If Greedo did shoot first, how the hell did he miss?
The same people who cry heresy at George Lucas's revisionist Star Wars trilogy insist upon having the Lord of the Rings "Extended Editions".
Dreamt James Cameron gave The Terminator the George Lucas treatment, removing "I'll be back" and adding an inflatable parking garage scene.
Being perhaps the only weight-challenged member of the Rebel Alliance didn't mean he deserved the name Porkins.
Short Round : Indiana Jones :: Ewoks : Star Wars
Just shy of her 28th birthday, my lady has finally been introduced to the Star Wars universe.

Revenge of the Sith
In light of the fact that—especially when it comes to Star Wars—opinions truly are like assholes, I’ll keep this relatively brief, but since my filmgoing has been shamefully infrequent so far this year, I thought I’d be remiss not to weigh in on what certainly must be, for better or worse, the cinematic event of the year.
My experiences with Star Wars have been, I’m sure, unremarkably similar to those of most Westerners in… See more →
It’s a three movie week.
Spiderman was pretty fun; it’s rare these days for a movie to have an acceptable excuse to be that hokey. Bruce Campbell and Randy “Macho Man” Savage cameos were the highlights for me. I do think people are getting a little too worked up over the movie, though.
Y Tu Mama Tambien was very well-done. Strong characters, interesting commentary on Mexico’s socio-economic innards, and a commendably frank and honest sexuality.… See more →
