Thanks everyone for the kind words! There is a strong possibility of imbibition in my immediate future.
Hello Again
Catching up on three years of silence: what I’ve been doing, what I haven’t been doing, and why I’m glad to be writing again.
Over three years ago, I won my first air guitar competition in Philadelphia. It had more of an impact on my life than I ever would have expected, introducing me to a bizarre and joyful underworld of free spirits who forced me to reevaluate what it means to experience music.
A few months later, and not entirely coincidentally, I accepted a job offer in Boston at what might be described as competitive air guitar’s above-ground… See more →
It feels really, really good to be writing again.
Cutting features.
Today, I am wrangling content for a new robweychert.com, which is scheduled for launch 10/10 or 10/11. It’s going to be a busy week.
Ambition
RW Final
Done. It’s not optimized for this pixel resolution, but the vector is finalized. Since the last version:
- The bowl of the R has gotten a tiny bit shorter, so the counter’s height corresponds to that of the bottom of the stem.
- The initials sit just a bit larger inside the circle, and they’re cheated a smidge above the actual center to align with the optical center (per Travis’s comment).
I’m sure there’s more nitpicking I could… See more →
RW2
Locked up. I may still get more OCD about the R’s proportions (the height of the bowl is still somewhat arbitrary, for example). But I also may not.

My lack of a logo, though not really a liability, has been gnawing at me for years. So I started doing some sketches today, and before long I had a rougher version of what you see here. It won’t stop anyone in their tracks, but I think what it lacks in distinction it makes up for in austere strength, and it’s built from the kind of geometry that informs my general aesthetic. It’s also a… See more →

A little project I've wanted to do for a long, long time is finally starting to come together.
Windhammer (Almost) Final Logo
I knew something wasn't quite right about the last iteration, and it had to do with the wingy things on the sides, which felt oddly arbitrary. When I showed it to my partner in crime, she said, "Where's the hammer?" Boom.
Windhammer Logo Candidate
Thanks again to everyone for all the great feedback. After many iterations, this might be the one. I'm gonna see how it sits for a few days. Continued feedback is welcome in the meantime.
Windhammer Logo Comps
These are variations on a logo for my famed air guitar persona. I think it's close, but not quite there. I've spent a lot of time fussing with the stroke modulation to strike the right tone and balance, and it's time to step back and get some more eyes on it.
What I'm going for:
- Menacing
- Heavy metal and D&D (somewhere between vaguely and overtly)
Likes:
- Good interplay of positive and negative space.
- Doesn't immediately… See more →

The Bawls Sawng (Teaser)
Never underestimate the lengths to which I'll go to make fun of my friends. This has been about 90% complete for more than two years. I think its time has just about come.
A week into my daily video project, I've twice relied on footage I shot months ago. Not bad, but I can't make it a habit. flickr.com/photos/robweychert…

It is 09/09/09 and The Beatles: Rock Band wants you to play.
My First Game Credit
The Beatles: Rock Band! This was a very pleasant surprise since I didn't think my insignificant contributions to the game merited a credit.
It took me almost thirty-three years, but I finally joined the club: twitpic.com/400y3

Creating a half dozen new Writeboards. There's a lot to write about, and I'm looking forward to sharing.
Thinking about what's next for robweychert.com.
Hadn't checked my site stats in awhile and was startled to find heavy traffic. Apparently Virtual Stan's fourth anniversary is a big to-do.

Backstage, an hour before show time, the cramped green room buzzed and shuffled with conversation and preparation. Rhinestones and tassels adorned leather and denim, which adorned bodies aged eighteen to forty-eight, travelers hailing from as far as West Virginia. Many were veterans of the air guitar stage, and some had competed as recently as the previous night. Having failed to capture the titles in their home towns of New York, Boston, and Washington DC, they… See more →

What a year this turned out to be.
Shortly after the year began, my time with the amazing team at Happy Cog ended. It was the best thing for all concerned, even if my lack of an exit strategy left me without direction. My comfort zone was toxic, so really, any direction would do.
I set out to get healthy, physically and mentally. I got my finances in order. I drove 9,400 miles around the… See more →
Fall Travels
Thanks in large part to Rob Across America, this has been the most traveled year of my life, but it’s not over yet. Before I disappear under a pile of blankets for the winter, I have a few more North American destinations lined up for the fall. If you happen to see me in any of these places, I hope you’ll say hello.

2008 US Air Guitar National Finals
Sometimes, you just can’t fight the urge to have your hair shaved into lightning bolts, hop a plane to San Francisco, and stand glaring in chaps on a stage in front of 1,500 drunken lunatics. I did this at the behest of my alter-ego Windhammer and the 2008 Cuervo Black US Air Guitar National Finals last Friday while the rest of the world had decidedly less fun watching the Olympic opening ceremonies.
The competitors may… See more →
2008 US Air Guitar Philadelphia Regional
I like adjectives that are both crystal clear and totally vague. For example, you may be coming off a “good” weekend just like I am, but it’s entirely possible that the “good” elements of our respective weekends were completely different. Perhaps you were served an amazing slice of peach cobbler, or your blind date turned out to be George Clooney, or you finally disposed of some incriminating evidence that’s been haunting you for years. But… See more →

Crunching the Numbers
Over the course of this trip, I kept track of a lot of numbers: Mileage, itemized expenses, gas consumption, and more. I was curious how everything would add up at the end, and I thought it might be useful information for anyone who wanted to do a similar road trip. If that’s you, and you want your trip to be exactly like mine (which would really require you to go back in time, access my… See more →
