Thanks for the memories, @Rdio. rdio.com/farewell/ #RdioFarewell
My music was interrupted by a treatise on Angry Orchard Refreshing Hard Cider With Attitude. An unceremonious end to my @Rdio subscription.
Can we just skip to the part where Killer Mike is president?
Was @Rdio’s survival tied to my freelance career? Its beta began when I left @Harmonix, and now its sale is announced as I join @propublica.
Over a few years, I wrote about 3,500 words’ worth of short music reviews on @Rdio. But I knew this day would come. v5.robweychert.com/writing/rdio-r…
I don’t like any of the alternatives to @Rdio. I don’t want it to go away.
Low
Regardless of how you feel about U2, can we agree that forming a U2 tribute band is just about the lamest thing a person can do?
Last night I braved the Times Square throngs to pick up a @RockBand guitar for the first time in years, and it put a HUGE smile on my face.
Megadeth’s Rust in Peace just turned 25. I wrote about it for the @RockBand blog awhile back. web.archive.org/web/2011051315…
Dear everyone,
Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift wasn’t an event until you made it one. You are boring.
Love,
Rob
Low
It’s been a shitty week, but luckily @lowtheband came to town tonight to wash off the muck.
The new @lowtheband album is, unsurprisingly, excellent. Excited I get to see them play on two continents this fall! lowtheband.bandcamp.com/album/ones-and…
Every band should license Killing Joke’s “Requiem” and open every album with it. youtu.be/U7WPI4TJImo
Someday, I will be the first person to ever bring an Epiphone Les Paul onto a stage. I will insist on a spotlight for the headstock.
Stevie Wonder
As Mondays go, it turns out that the one where you get to see a free, surprise Stevie Wonder show is a winner.
Failure & Hum
More people should be excited that I saw Hum tonight so here is my video of Hum playing a Hum song in front of me.
♫ Went to the doctor, guess what he told me, guess what he told me? He said boy I’m gonna prescribe you Flonase and amoxicillin.
I’m not much more than a casual fan, but god damn if the right New Order song popping up at the right moment isn’t a recipe for goosebumps.
Fixed an error:
80% all white,
80% all male,
64% all white and all male,
4% neither all white nor all male.
The 100 artists I listened to most in the last 10 years are:
80% all white,
80% all male,
68% all white and all male.
Gotta fix that.
Today I learned that the “Hangar 18” intro recycles the chord progression from the “Call of Ktulu” intro, and all the world is new again.
Apple, stop trolling.
As I exit the train station and enter Philadelphia, the shuffle serves this up on my headphones. youtu.be/IrFzvCHihdE
Following John Coltrane on Apple Music. Hope he puts out a new record soon!

The rain ruined my evening plans but then @lowtheband announced new album details and tour dates and may as well have parted the clouds.
On #CouchTo5K run 20 of 27 today, I crossed the 3-mile mark at 24:57. My thanks to Civ for the boost at the end. youtu.be/nqpiXMgrEZg
Colin Stetson & Sarah Neufeld
If I could justify the cost, the Metal Eagle Edition of the new Slayer album would greet my home’s every visitor. avclub.com/article/slayer…
So, who’s going to see Hum with me in August? brooklynvegan.com/archives/2015/…
Refused
Snagged a ticket to see @Refused’s surprise late show at @saintvitusbar tonight. Kiiiind of excited about it.
Like a fine wine, Faith No More fans only get better with age. rdio.com/comment/818184/
Sol Invictus
I think it’s fair to say that Faith No More had run its course by the time the band split up in 1998, and seventeen years later, Sol Invictus finds the guys pretty much picking up right where they left off, which renders the album sadly inessential. This is not to say that it’s bad, especially by reunion record standards, but none of its songs are likely to become classics, and some probably should have… See more →
Stephin Merritt
Color me impressed that @ChamberMonster managed to keep a secret for 2+ months, and tonight we’re seeing Stephin Merritt!
Funeral Dress
After being a Wussy fan for a few years, I only just now noticed that this song borrows liberally from the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks.”
Whatever Nevermind: A Tribute to Nirvana’s Nevermind
Though a few good bands are included, no one on this compilation does an even remotely compelling Nirvana cover.
Happy Artificial Scarcity Day, vinyl junkies! Have fun getting angry at the eBay monster you created!
