At Brattle Books, reading a surprisingly prescient essay on web typography published nine years ago.
The unholy typographic alliance of Windows and Mozilla turns "click" into "dick" every time. Or, you know, it's a Freudian thing.
Online article pagination makes baby Jesus cry.
#lyt #santamaria gets my vote. Thanks to both competitors for a really great match!
Loving today's Layer Tennis match between @jasonsantamaria and @fraying, and it's not even at the halfway mark yet.
Who can devise the most poetic punishment for the inventor of this type of packaging? No holds barred. twitpic.com/2gm4r
At @santheo and @sarahweisz's discussion about their amazing puzzle hunts, hoping to one day have even a fraction of their creativity.
The Objectified panel is a testament to the comprehensiveness of the film by being mostly redundant.
Waiting to Journey to the Center of Design.
In line at the Paramount with @jasonsantamaria, waiting to see Objectified.
Limited edition letterpress #Cogaoke poster presale in the Hampton lounge at 5:00. Proceeds could help feed any children I may have.
Trying to decide if I like Witch enough to justify owning this magnificent poster: gigposters.com/poster/109430_…
Thanks all for the raster-to-vector info. AI's Live Trace is exactly what I was looking for.
Any designers know the best tools for hi-res raster-to-vector conversion these days? I haven't done it since the days of Streamline.
In Brief: The Wrong Kind of Breathtaking
I have the PDF if you have a hard time downloading it. It’s... wow.
Anybody know a good resource for select (drop-down) menu usability best practices?
It is the '00s, and when a graphic designer tells Metallica that his die cuts are more important than their lyrics, they listen.
This job makes me feel dumb pretty regularly. Always reminding myself of Kasparov's advice for growth: "Lose as often as you can take it."
Day two of 3ds Max training. Shrek fan fiction is imminent.

What a year this turned out to be.
Shortly after the year began, my time with the amazing team at Happy Cog ended. It was the best thing for all concerned, even if my lack of an exit strategy left me without direction. My comfort zone was toxic, so really, any direction would do.
I set out to get healthy, physically and mentally. I got my finances in order. I drove 9,400 miles around the… See more →
Found my pica rule from college buried in a mountain of old junk at my parents' house. From this day forth, no type shall go unmeasured!
Instead of telling people you do silkscreen printing, try saying, "Please tell me all your inane t-shirt slogan ideas."
Could this be the highest profile design ripoff in history? nytimes.com/2008/11/15/world/…
Having a moment of profound appreciation for the people that taught me graphic design.
"The user won't mind how difficult my design is to use because they'll be so psyched about how awesome I made it look!"
Pondering @veen's data visualization insights and how they might befriend my recently-realized dedication to storytelling.
Thanks to all who listened to my Design Lessons in Chess talk at #aeachicago08! As always, I welcome any constructive feedback.
Doing some last minute prep for my Design Lessons in Chess talk at #aeachicago08. Also shivering.
Thanks to all that attended my Design Lessons in Chess talk at #WJS08. I welcome any feedback, good, bad, or indifferent.
Finding humor in a humorless designer's complaints about other designers lacking a sense of humor.
Saw not one but two Swiss films today with end credits set in Arial. Jesus wept.
Fall Travels
Thanks in large part to Rob Across America, this has been the most traveled year of my life, but it’s not over yet. Before I disappear under a pile of blankets for the winter, I have a few more North American destinations lined up for the fall. If you happen to see me in any of these places, I hope you’ll say hello.

The problem is that I just don't give a fuck about advertising or marketing.
Can someone tell me how to buy an issue of Practical Web Design magazine? I'm stumped.

Innovation is the byproduct, not the goal.
Pondering the probability that the bad design that surrounds us will one day be nostalgic, and wondering if that's a bad thing.
Philadelphia parks would be great places to hang out if the benches were designed more for sitting and less for thwarting homeless people.
Glad to see some stern education directed at one of the many people on craigslist who grossly undervalue design: philadelphia.craigslist.org/med/7…
Communication was secondary to image in the Dreamless era. The work was fearless, but empty. Now, substance is often strangled by restraint.
Recalling the wanky interactive "design" work of the Dreamless era and wondering if anything excites me now the way that stuff did then.
What does this mean?
I'm stumped. All of my iPhone apps are up-to-date, and the Applications window in iTunes doesn't indicate that any two apps are in any way different than the others. So what does that 2 mean? And how do I make it go away?
An online article has to be incredibly interesting for me to find it paginated and continue to read it.
Wishing I was at TypeCon.
Thanks all for the postcard vendor recommendations. Looks like overnightprints.com has the optimal combo of good, cheap, quick, and low-run.
Recommendations for reasonably priced, good quality, fast turnaround online postcard printing services?
Poorly-integrated text ads do more harm to a web page design than poorly-integrated image ads.
