Adding a reunited Faraquet to the impressive list of bands I'll miss seeing play while I'm traveling to various places this fall.
Those who don't appreciate white space are of the sort to regard a quiet performance as background music for loud conversation.
Dreamt that Glenn Danzig returned to the Misfits and they recorded a new single at a remote, Midwestern gas station.
Any Philly people going to see Don Cab at Johnny Brenda's tonight?
Unfortunate video of my unfortunate rendition of Prince's "Kiss," courtesy of @TechKaraokePHL: viddler.com/explore/techkarao…
Karaoke at National Mechanics with @sarahphymn, @polexa, @alexknowshtml, @haveboard, and more.
Downloading my first Amazon MP3 album purchase, Don Caballero's Punkgasm.
Dwindling CD storage space may finally make me go digital, but used CDs cost less than MP3s, and I buy more old music than new these days.
2008 US Air Guitar National Finals
Sometimes, you just can’t fight the urge to have your hair shaved into lightning bolts, hop a plane to San Francisco, and stand glaring in chaps on a stage in front of 1,500 drunken lunatics. I did this at the behest of my alter-ego Windhammer and the 2008 Cuervo Black US Air Guitar National Finals last Friday while the rest of the world had decidedly less fun watching the Olympic opening ceremonies.
The competitors may… See more →
Uploaded my first YouTube video. Haven't talked to the (now defunct) band in years; hope they don't mind. Try to spot me: youtube.com/watch?v=ULV4saghl…

Andrew W.K. is probably the only person from whom I will tolerate the use of "party" as a verb.
Are there really still people that don't know that John Lydon is a consummate asshole?
Brokenhearted over the unfeasibility of me attending any of the Shudder to Think reunion shows. Fingers crossed for more dates.
Trying to create a narrative with a mix CD tracklist, which feels uncomfortably similar to fan fiction.
Found my old photos of myself with Metallica, and posted them on Flickr for your amusement: flickr.com/photos/robweychert…
Adding some hardcore shows from the '90s to my Last.fm event archive, using hardcoreshowflyers.com as a memory aid.
Stopped sharking a minute to get chips and drinks.
For Whom the Bell Tolls
I recently started using the Rating feature in iTunes, and sometimes it can be an interesting visual representation of what I already know. You don't even need to look at the full-size image of this chronological list of Metallica albums to see what the Rating column on the far right has to say about the band's consistency over the years.
Failing to recall where I put those old photos of me and Metallica.
Alright, who slipped me the drug that makes me wake up with that wretched Counting Crows version of "Big Yellow Taxi" stuck in my head?
Alphabetical iTunes frontrunners so far: Artist: A-Ha (33%). Album: Abbey Road (11%).
Alphabetically, my first artist in iTunes is A-Ha; my first album is Absolutely the Best (Lead Belly). What are yours?
Number of utterances of "Satan" on Mercyful Fate's first album: 16. My guess would not have been nearly that low.

Just finished Lee Sandlin's excellent WWII essay "Losing the War," kind of ashamed that "Danger Zone" was stuck in my head as I read it.
Shudder to Think is playing at the TLA in Philly on October 3rd, when I will be in Atlanta. This is distressing.
Mick Mars is ten years older than Barack Obama.
Fuck. I just found out Andrew WK is playing with Butthole Surfers tomorrow night, and I already have Mission of Burma tickets. Conundrum!
Singing "Inbox: 0" to the tune of "Jukebox Hero."
Getting the Led out, thanks to a neighbor, whether I want to or not, which I don't.
According to everyone in the world, there is a new Coldplay album. I guess that means Coldplay still hasn't fucked off like I asked them to.
Looking for nominees for "Web Site with Highest Disparity Between Quality of Content and Quality of Design/Build." I nominate allmusic.com.
Listening to the bonus tracks on the new reissue of Mission of Burma's Vs, trying like mad to figure out where I've heard "Progress" before.
The Extraordinaires
Emperor X was so good tonight. Pretty much everyone I can think of would have enjoyed this show.
Listening to a record store clerk tell a customer that special orders take 1-2 weeks. Wondering if they hear the clock ticking.
Trying to figure out how to get Devo tickets without paying Ticketmaster's goddamned bastard 25% "convenience" fee.

I like adjectives that are both crystal clear and totally vague. For example, you may be coming off a “good” weekend just like I am, but it’s entirely possible that the “good” elements of our respective weekends were completely different. Perhaps you were served an amazing slice of peach cobbler, or your blind date turned out to be George Clooney, or you finally disposed of some incriminating evidence that’s been haunting you for years. But… See more →

North by Northwest
The ease with which “Pacific Northwest” is abbreviated to PACNOWE made us feel unwelcome before we even got here, but we were able to resist obeying that imperative long enough to have a very fun day in Seattle.
Most of the day was spent at the Experience Music Project, a museum housed in the first Frank Gehry building I’ve gotten to see in person. The building’s effect was much what I imagined it would be:… See more →
One day will not be enough to spend at the Experience Music Project.
Overheard: "I need to close out my tab." "Name?" "Jackson, first name Michael."
Hole
In AC/DC’s 1976 classic “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” the late Bon Scott gleefully lists a handful of his favorite methods for ridding his clients of their enemies, including concrete shoes, cyanide, and TNT. He makes no mention of the Grand Canyon, probably because its Arizona location is geographically inconvenient for an Australian like him. But boy was he missing an opportunity.
Most people who visit the Grand Canyon are stricken by its arresting natural… See more →
Meet the New Mexico, Same as the Old Mexico
I seem to be hitting my stride; the four hours in the car today were nothing. The fact that the drive was equally as scenic as yesterday’s but more populated and less lengthy helped quite a bit. However, had I known what Albuquerque had in store for me, the trip probably would have seemed much longer.
I knew next to nothing about Albuquerque before today, and I now know slightly less than nothing. The little… See more →
