Were there any teen movies in the 80s that weren't about class warfare?
First viewing of School of Rock in quite awhile. To whom it may concern, I absolutely adore this movie.
Just learned that Edgar Wright directed the forthcoming Scott Pilgrim movie, and suddenly I'm interested.
Twenty-five years later, it occurs to me that the names of Cobra's twin Crimson Guard leaders Tomax and Xamot mirror each other.
What Michel Gondry lacks in punctuality he more than makes up for in charm, imagination, self-awareness, and humility.
Conan O'Brien tickets were an expensive impulse buy, but it's time to make amends for never attending a Late Night taping.
It's 2010. If you made a feature film, make a trailer. If you run a film festival, put trailers on your site. Sheesh. #sxsw
Famous movie quotes, graphed
I’m getting pretty tired of this stuff. This comment says it all.
Netflix's removal of my friends' ratings from its movie pages may be the single most disappointing redesign decision I've ever encountered.
In the many years since I last saw Heavy Metal, my appetite for poorly animated sex and violence has diminished greatly.
Q: Does the fact that it is an AIGA "event" make a film screening worth $20? A: No.
It has probably been too long since you took in a good Kids in the Hall monologue. Here you go: youtube.com/watch?v=RZzzKDytK…
New divine mystery: @beep has never seen the "Homie the Clown" episode of The Simpsons. Don't worry, I'm on it.
If I were witness to my upstairs neighbors' murders a la Rear Window, solving the mystery would be looking a gift horse in the mouth.
That's a penny you owe him.
Working. Building. Never stopping, never sleeping. Working. Making. Some for selling, some for keeping.
Between a Bill & Ted double feature and the State of the Union address, the former is more life-affirming, so my choice is made.
Untitled
Checked in on The Office to see if it had improved, and was greeted by a clip show. Really? TV still does that?
Conan O'Brien is the only late night talk show host I ever found particularly funny. Also, Taylor Dayne was the female Eddie Vedder.

Still shaken from last night's viewing of Deliver Us from Evil. Utterly devastating.
Alone in a crowded diner. Mimosa. Omelette. Mushrooms, peppers, onions, mozarella, marinara. Steve McQueen. The Beatles. Happy new year.
Dreamt I was asked to copy edit an article about vegetable nutrition, but was handed a wannabe Troma movie instead. It felt good to yell.
Fantastic Mr. Fox was utterly charming. Wes Anderson is out of the doghouse for the time being.
Inqlings: A partly “Sunny” bar for Old City
I hope all you humps who like this stupid show are happy. Old City now has one fewer oasis.
Rediscovered Ballast on Netflix Instant. So refreshing to see an indie so perfectly compact, understated, and moving.
70-Minute Video Review of ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’
Seriously, watch all seven parts.
Why the Phantom Menace sucks
Seriously, watch the whole thing.
Film: Newswire:Kristin Stewart and Dakota Fanning rock out in The Runaways trailer
I want this movie to be good, but even with Joan Jett as an executive producer, I have my doubts. The retarded trailer does not assuage them, especially with the obscenely hyperbolic statement at the end. Can anyone think of a music biopic that was actually good?
Oh my fucking god I forgot how completely mindblowingly awesome the Purple Rain movie is.
The Matrix in Lego
My favorite thing about this is actually how they did the titles.
"Dicks. Why did it have to be dicks?"
Giving Indiana Jones the ol' dick n' moustache treatment. The Thanksgiving drinking games have begun. yfrog.com/4fr7zpj
One plus two plus two plus one.
Midnight Movie Tip: If you live in a college town, wait until summer to go see The Room.
Finally watched the Mad Men season finale. Holy moly.
Four hours of meetings today. I quote Dr. Marvin Monroe: "This is not the way to get healthy!"
Netflix's rating/recommendation system needs a way to express "so bad it's good."
TV: Hater:Stupid Grown-Ups To Ruin Halloween
Ugh.
The guy working the café car on this train talks like Johnny Cab from Total Recall.
Saw VI
Having never seen any of the Saw films, I thought it would be a fun experiment to start with Saw VI, the most recent installation, and see what I could piece together of the previous five films based on my familiarity with other long-running horror franchises. This idea presupposed that the Saw series had the same general lack of serialization of, say, the Friday the 13th series, whose twelve installments were really bound together only… See more →
Just heard National Geographic refer to itself as "Nat Geo" in a promo for a Cops clone on its TV channel. Getting out my red pen.
Are current Daily Show correspondents paying attention at the commercial break when former correspondent Brian Unger is selling BMWs?
