So @casey_malone asks if I saw the @MovingImageNYC Henson exhibit and I find they’re showing a newish Svankmajer film tonight. Yay internet!
Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter
Someone left $20 in the ATM, so I’m getting paid to see Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter and The Sadies tonight. I like this arrangement.
When music is great, there’s nothing better.
Fucked Up
Believe the hype about Fucked Up’s live show.
Hello Again
Catching up on three years of silence: what I’ve been doing, what I haven’t been doing, and why I’m glad to be writing again.
Over three years ago, I won my first air guitar competition in Philadelphia. It had more of an impact on my life than I ever would have expected, introducing me to a bizarre and joyful underworld of free spirits who forced me to reevaluate what it means to experience music.
A few months later, and not entirely coincidentally, I accepted a job offer in Boston at what might be described as competitive air guitar’s above-ground… See more →
Best B-boy crew I’ve seen in awhile on the N train after a lovely afternoon with @beep, @drinkerthinker, @essl, and @VictoriaMia.

Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory
Roulette Grand Opening Gala
Staff at a new venue giddily pulled us off the street for the final moments of a Fred Frith performance. I ❤ Brooklyn. roulette.org
Wolves in the Throne Room
To whom it may concern, I am a few blocks outside flood zone C and pretty well stocked up and ready for whatever Irene has in store.
The parallel parking standoff outside is finally over. Not sure what the cops did, but the wrongful victor’s shitty park job is priceless.
We are now thirty minutes into an exact replica of Seinfeld’s “The Parking Space” on my block. Squad car number two just arrived. #adulthood
For all who lament Fort Greene’s gentrification, I’ve seen two dudes pissing in broad daylight in front of my house in the last two weeks.
As of today, I have been an official resident of Brooklyn for one year. I shall celebrate by spending $20 on an ice cream cone.
Fake Hooker
What is it about punk rock jocks five times your size that makes them think it’s cool to throw you into a pile of chairs?
Sidetracked on my way to @studiomates by a series of drum lines in Fort Greene. I ♥ Brooklyn.
Archers of Loaf
In Brooklyn today, the most popular place to be was in front of my moving bicycle.

Tombs
Time for Tombs to blast the residue of this crappy day off me. @ Studio at Webster Hall gowal.la/c/4p8TJ
Holy shit, Tombs was fucking fantastic. A sound like theirs can easily turn into a murky mess live, but they brought it to terrifying life.
First @CalexicoNYC burrito of the season. Deliciousness completely worthy of the required exposure to my nemesis. flic.kr/p/9RzXQD
Briefly stranded with arepas in Williamsburg en route to Queens while @meganborn’s second flat of the day (!) is fixed.

Terminal 5 is a deal breaker.
TV on the Radio
High Definition Dicks
Obligatory inaugural iPad video.
Explosions in the Sky
Dude, you’re at Radio City Music Hall. You’re really gonna put your feet up on the seat in front of you?
Thin Lizzy
Thin Lizzy without Phil always seemed like a bad idea, but holy hell am I glad I saw them tonight. He’s gone but certainly not forgotten.
Agalloch
By all means, bring your identity-starved girlfriend accessory to the metal show and clutch each other all night like junior high is ending.
Battledecks Testimonial and Contest
To introduce their 2011 Battledecks event, my pals at Mule Design asked me to do a little testimonial video about my past experience with Battledecks, and I’ve decided to turn the product into a contest. It goes like this:
There are fifty-five album covers visible on my screen saver (spanning both screens) in the background of this video. How many can you identify?

Overheard (outside Manhattan Center): “Digital cameras and camcorders are not allowed inside. You will be searched.” Good luck with that.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Mixed feelings about Godspeed You Black Emperor tonight. Iffy setlist, but great to hear them live and insanely loud again after so long.

Angel Witch on the Barcade speakers. I win.
Heading out to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a group test of @larrylegend’s mysterious new iPhone app.
Got my tickets for TV on the Radio City Music Hall. Now to devise some sort of Japanese game show to determine who gets my extra ticket.
Crazy fog tonight.
The Dismemberment Plan
Tonight I danced my ass off to a live Dismemberment Plan set for the first time in seven years.

This is how you do wayfinding. @ Brooklyn Museum instagr.am/p/1Xy1
Just discovered NYC’s glam metal revival scene. I won’t begrudge them their fun, but the second time around just seems like a costume party.

Man or Astro-Man?
Feeling pretty sorry for those of you that didn’t see Man or Astro-man and Dex Romweber Duo on the tour they’re wrapping up tomorrow.
Swans
My earplugs were no match for Swans.
