Legacy of Letters (by Luca Barcellona) Typographic mediation...
This is for those of you poor fools who labor under the illusion that you are or one day will be good at something.

What Was the Hipster?
It has long been noticed that the majority of people who frequent any traditional bohemia are hangers-on. Somewhere, at the center, will be a very small number of hardworking writers, artists, or politicos, from whom the hangers-on draw their feelings of authenticity. Hipsterdom at its darkest, however, is something like bohemia without the revolutionary core. Happy birthday, Dad. I miss you.
Involuntarily reliving the worst day of my life in prose. Being an artist is overrated.

Ottawa International Animation Festival 2010
This year was the least of the eight OIAFs I’ve attended, but I’m glad to see The External World took away the big prize, since it was definitely a standout. Too bad you can’t see any of it online. I’m likewise happy to see the excellent Goodbye Mister Christie win the best feature award. It was the only feature that interested me this year (Phil Mulloy is the shit, and his films are very much… See more →

Since their craft is so laborious, you’d expect concision to be the chief concern of an animator, yet so many films overstay their welcome.

Nothing wrong with a little Samhain on a Misfits blog, right?
One of my favorite Samhain songs, but it has always bummed me out that the studio version sounds so terrible (as was the case with a lot of Samhain stuff, really). I think I’ll record my own version.

How much space would NYC occupy if it accommodated the same amount of people/stuff but only had one-story buildings? Somebody do the math.
Just realized I never explored Television beyond Marquee Moon because what else was there to say?MM was such a singular, defining statement.

I can’t put my finger on what I like so much about this poster. I do know that something about its seemingly random noise invited me to explore it, and that the actual information is easily discernible despite that noise, thanks to a clear focal point and succinct text.

Music: Newswire: Steve Albini adds Sonic Youth to the list of things he’s pissed off about today
Man, I might have hoped A.V. Club would be above the whole “quote the snippet where he talks shit on the beloved famous people!” thing, but at least it linked to the rest of the interview, which is great. As much as Albini usually kinda comes off as a dick, I can’t say I disagree with him. And regarding his own past dalliances in the mainstream music biz, I’d really like to know what he… See more →
