An ad with a photo of what appears to be a large egg yolk sitting on a person’s open palm, being poked by a finger from their other hand. The headline beneath the picture reads, “This Simple Trick Empties Almost Immediately Your Bowels Every Morning,” followed by much smaller text reading, “Sponsored by Guthealthwellness.” To the left of the logo is a symbol resembling the caduceus, but with the wings replaced by leaves.

good news everyone

@eleven_ty @pdehaan Evergreen thanks also to @stuntbox, without whom I might never have gotten past being intimidated by the command line and static site generators. They’ve improved my web life so much over the past seven years. 🙌🏻

I’ve been coding plusequals.art entirely by hand up until now (apart from the SVG), but I’m happy to say I’m just about done moving it onto @eleven_ty, and it’s been easier than expected! Big thanks to @pdehaan for his help with the final hurdle: github.com/11ty/eleventy/…

I’m supposed to be en route to @OIAF_Animation right now, but had to cancel my trip last-minute. I’ve been sulking about it all day, but reading about draftees fleeing Russia really puts my stuck-at-home troubles in perspective. nytimes.com/2022/09/22/wor…

I’m looking for more ways to share what I’ve learned. If you would be interested in a workshop on creative coding, design, and/or zinemaking, please take this brief survey: forms.gle/He9L6rzudCrty6…

Also included: a crash course in the (relatively uncomplicated!) mechanics of Bézier curves, and some topical handwringing on the subject of AI art.

For this issue, I wanted to see if a series of loose, seemingly spontaneous images could be produced via a rigid system. Spoiler: They can, and I’ve algorithmically generated 562 unique scribbles to prove it.

For some reason, this round of “stop crying, corporate consolidation is actually great!” takes on Design Twitter is really bumming me out.

Ghost

It’s rare for me to go to an arena show, and when I do, I generally expect the lack of intimacy to seriously diminish the experience. This was certainly the case for Mastodon, who absolutely demolished the basements and bars I saw them play years ago, but they couldn’t energize me in nearly the same way from across Trenton’s cavernous Cure Insurance Arena. The fact that I haven’t paid much attention to their last few… See more →

Note the passive voice where the second article references the first: “In local media, Mr. Vo was championed as Pennsylvania’s cryptocurrency luminary.”

Both articles have the same byline. 😂

In addition to being a bit of an homage to Reid Miles and Saul and Elaine Bass, this project gave me a good opportunity to play around with a Python script I wrote for @drawbotapp to make abstract geometric images from linear halftones. twitter.com/robweychert/st…

The Big Sleep

Relocating Philip Marlowe from 1940s Los Angeles to 1970s London is such a patently terrible idea that it’s no wonder no one involved in this seems to make much of an effort. But some contributions seem actively intent on dragging it down even further, most notably the tacky TV movie aesthetics and Candy Clark’s embarrassing, absolutely ridiculous take on Camilla (née Carmen) Sternwood. Awful.
