The Philadelphia Story
DID YOU KNOW FOOTBALL IS HAPPENING TOMORROW? NFL ENGAGEMENT ON TWITTER IS ESPECIALLY LOW AMONG TWITTER USERS SO WE ARE GETTING THE WORD OUT.
Got 4 NFL emails from Twitter (1 for each account) in flagrant violation of my email settings.
P.S. – I unequivocally despise football.
I only saw the first Jurassic Park movie, and now there’s a fourth. Do they just keep making disastrous dinosaur parks? That seems foolish.

My misbehavior would need to be exponentially more severe for me to suffer the same fate as Michael Brown. If that’s not privilege, what is?

I can’t look the other way anymore as Uber demonstrates again and again that it is run by terrible people. Deleted.

Chelsea Peretti: One of the Greats
There’s not enough good stuff here to sustain an entire 75-minute special, but Chelsea generally keeps things moving at a good clip, so the lulls between the more satisfying laughs are never too long, and her style strikes a nice balance between sardonic and wacky, which elevates even her weakest jokes. The writing and directing tries to mess with the traditional standup form by adding lots of weird non-sequiturs – mostly quick, scripted cuts to… See more →
It’s that day of year when I notice the super finally turned the heat on and then Glenn Frey busts through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man.
Here is a very amusing video for you to enjoy. youtu.be/mxzgwJ8tSE0

I really liked the word “literal.” For its distinct purpose, it had no equal. What a strange fate it suffered.

Idiocracy
...you know, because of the name.

This morning’s beard.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
A technically adroit series of carefully scripted temper tantrums meant to embody the struggle of making capital “A” Art, Birdman pays lip service to the nuance that accompanies authenticity, but it tends to make its points as loudly as possible. This is probably about as good as overwrought showbiz navel gazing gets, and it’s still pretty off-putting.

This Music Leaves Stains
- The Manitou. USA, 1978. This has to be Tony Curtis’s most bizarre film. Still, way too much tell and not enough show. Body count: ? ★★

The Manitou

The Devil's Rain

Blood and Roses

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors

Rituals

The Food of the Gods

The Vampire's Coffin
- The Devil’s Rain. USA, 1975. Satanism is basically the same as Christianity, only less scary. Body count: zzz... ★
- Blood and Roses. France, 1960. Certainly the most elegant film of the day, but too sedate. Striking dream sequence. Body count: 2. ★★½
- Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors. UK, 1965. Super fun anthology with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Body count: 9 (and a dog). ★★★½
- Rituals. Canada, 1977. Well, that was dark. Basically Deliverance II. Body count: 5. ★★★
- Food of the Gods. USA, 1976. Who knew country rats were so much bigger than city rats? Body count: 5. ★★★
- The Vampire’s Coffin. Mexico, 1950s. Rubber bats ahoy! Body count: 2. ★★½
Today’s supremely shitty weather is perfect for sitting in a theater for 12 solid hours of horror films, which is exactly what I’m doing.
